Russell Triumphs in Belgium with Daring One-Stop Strategy, Edges Out Hamilton in Thrilling Finish

George Russell delivered a breathtaking performance at the Belgian Grand Prix, securing victory with a bold strategy and fending off a late-race surge from Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Charles Leclerc initially led the race after a strong start from pole position but was soon overtaken by Hamilton, who looked dominant on a track where he has previously won four times. However, the race took a dramatic turn as Russell opted for a daring one-stop strategy, pitting on Lap 10 of 44 and attempting to nurse his aging hard tires to the finish.

As the race progressed, Hamilton closed the gap on Russell, creating a thrilling chase in the final laps. Despite intense pressure and getting agonizingly close, Hamilton was unable to overtake Russell, who crossed the finish line just half a second ahead to claim the third victory of his F1 career.

Behind the Mercedes one-two finish, Oscar Piastri secured third place for McLaren, while Charles Leclerc finished fourth for Ferrari. Max Verstappen, starting from P11 due to penalties, managed to climb back to fifth place for Red Bull Racing.

Lando Norris finished sixth, while Carlos Sainz took seventh for Ferrari. Red Bull's Sergio Perez ended up in P8, overtaken by Sainz in the latter stages amid ongoing speculation about his future with the team. Fernando Alonso claimed ninth for Aston Martin, and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top ten for Alpine.

Daniel Ricciardo narrowly missed out on points, finishing P11 for Red Bull, followed by Lance Stroll in P12 for Aston Martin and Alex Albon in P13 for Williams. Pierre Gasly finished 14th for Alpine, while Kevin Magnussen crossed the line in 15th for Haas.

Valtteri Bottas finished 16th for Sauber, ahead of Yuki Tsunoda in P17 for Red Bull. Logan Sargeant ended in P18 for Williams, and Nico Hulkenberg was the last finisher in P19 for Haas. Zhou Guanyu was the only retirement of the day, suffering a hydraulic issue with his Sauber.

The race at Spa showcased thrilling strategies and intense competition, with George Russell's gamble paying off in spectacular fashion. Fans will surely remember this incredible victory as one of the highlights of the 2024 season.
