Verstappen's penalty, incurred for taking a new power unit, will see him start the race further back, opening the door for Leclerc to lead the pack. The Ferrari driver, echoing last year's performance, gratefully accepted the pole position. "Thank you very much," he remarked, seizing the opportunity presented by Verstappen's misfortune.
Sergio Perez, Verstappen's teammate, will start third, with Lewis Hamilton in fourth for Mercedes. McLaren's Lando Norris rounds out the top five, each driver moving up the order due to Verstappen's penalty.
Qualifying saw several notable eliminations. In Q2, Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas, and Lance Stroll were knocked out. The first qualifying session (Q1) saw the exits of Nico Hulkenberg, Kevin Magnussen, Yuki Tsunoda, Logan Sargeant, and Guanyu Zhou.
As the drivers prepare for Sunday’s race, all eyes will be on how Verstappen handles the challenge of climbing back up the grid. Will Leclerc capitalize on his inherited pole position? The Belgian Grand Prix promises an exciting showdown.
